Maggie Treats a Client

I have 18 years experience working with people and animals in pain as a therapist and health care educator. I haven’t always been a therapist, in fact my own health challenges and the difficulties I encountered in finding the right people to help me, ultimately resulted in my changing professions to become a therapist.

During my illness, I worked my way through various medical resources, complementary therapies, courses, pills and potions. You name it, I did it. I spent a lot of hope, time, and money searching, often fruitlessly.  If you’ve come to this blog with a health issue, I’m sure you can relate to this! It took a long time to get better because I didn’t know where to look and often didn’t know the right questions to ask.

Once I found the right combination, I was literally given back my life and what a wonderful life it is … I want this for you!

I began as a counselor with a general practice treating clients with emotional pain – depression, anxiety, stress symptoms, frustration – sounds a bit like someone suffering chronic pain doesn’t it? That’s what I noticed, that almost every client who suffered emotional distress also suffered physical pain. Hmmm, I said to myself, need to do something more here. I looked at the therapies that had worked for me during my recovery and realized that I got better because I treated ALL of me – my body, my thoughts, my emotions … and I found my long lost spirit.

So I did some more training in body oriented therapies. That still wasn’t enough for me. Sure, my clients body’s were getting better, they had less pain and they’d improve to a point, but then they’d plateau. Hmmm, I said again, can’t have one without the other. Body and mind, heart and soul must all be given a chance to be free of pain. Give the body the TLC it needs AND dig up the ideas and attitudes that actually keep the pain sufferer stuck. Not always an easy thing to do for someone in pain, let me tell you, but the look on the face, the light in the eyes, the great big grin when someone who’s struggled with pain and ill health for a long time finally gets it. Woo Hoo!

I’m passionate about working with all of you, your mind and body, your heart and soul so you LOVE  the life you live. I often get asked what my special interest is, that’s it. MindBody medicine. It really excites me! In the past few years, in my private practice I specialise in CranioSacral Therapy. (CST)  I love the way CST treats the whole person and all the aspects of pain. I’m a member of the International Alliance of Healthcare Educators. (IAHE).

As well as working one-on-one with people in pain, I also have health care seminars and courses for groups. They are of course, all based in MindBody philosophy and science.

I know from personal experience that it IS possible to be well and more than that, to really, really love the life you live and live the life you love.
